We're turning 1!
Added on August 21st, 2011
Holy crap! It feels like almost yesterday I made this post on reddit, announcing my initial plans to start a Minecraft server. It feels like last week Edwardloveall and I were testing hMod builds into the wee hours of the morning. Ahh, sweet sweet memories!
Our official 1 year birthday is October 1st, 2011. That's when I officially enabled "build mode" (for those who remember) and watched 30 people scramble around punching trees frantically. 3 worlds, over 700 registration whitelists, 7 moderators (some who have left in the time, regardless) and $1800 into server hardware later, here we are!
With 1.8 just around the corner we have some big plans. The first being the world reset that will happen for 1.8.
This is an extremely hard decision to make, but the best one rather than keeping our old one. With 1.8 as you know, it comes with even more blocks available for users. As such, we already currently have over a 600MB world, which means those chunks that are already generated will not have the new blocks! Another great thing about this world reset is we can start fresh, with all that we have learned with building, mining, redstone contraptions and the like. We have yet another awesome journey ahead, and an entirely new world to look forward too, with all the same people!
What does that mean for our old world? Well, it will be backed up of course, and a download link will be shared to those members who inquire so that they can download it and play it locally.
I for one am EXTREMELY excited about this world reset. The main reason is that the members on our server currently, I have personally watched learn simple building structures to some of the most elaborate things I've ever seen. I can't wait to see what's in store next!
Big ideas of course are soon to come! As always, join up on our IRC channel to chat!
Thanks all, for making us hit our 1 year anniversary! We did it! Here's to many more!

Woo hoo! Our first birthday!
Can't wait for 1.8!
I'll definitely try to hop on more often after the reset.
Map resets are always a hard decision, but I think it's time.
Sooooo excited about this....
Map resets are tough, but it's for the better I suppose. I was going to recommend installing Multiverse but I finished reading the rest of the post. I would appreciate a download link; I can migrate some of my creations to one of my worlds. Good work Brian, I'll be there when 1.8 comes out! And you can expect me to help with Bukkit plugins as I usually try to.
Woooo, map resettt
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I welcome the reset. In fact I think semi-regular resets are a good thing, they prevent us from getting stale and old areas from being abandoned.
When is the reset party set for? I missed the last map being destroyed so I want to see this one off.
Woah nelly, how about them apples!
